I Believe In Every Person’s Ability To Heal And Change

I am a therapist because I believe in every person’s ability to heal and change. I know this because I too have been in a dark place of hurt and pain, unsure if recovery was possible.

I grew up in a family with a long history of substance abuse and sex addiction. Though my parents tried to change the narrative, they didn’t have access to the therapeutic skills and insights needed to heal the generational impact of pain and trauma. As a result, I fell into some of the same counterproductive patterns that were common in our family.

Not only did I eventually develop a sex addiction, but I also struggled throughout my twenties to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Working between industries and not having graduated from college until my thirties, I understand what it’s like to feel lost, behind, and without a sense of belonging.

Fortunately, with help and support, I was able to clarify my path and achieve recovery. In learning more about my emotions, I realized that I possessed skills to help myself and others. My own healing process inspired me to pursue a career as a therapist.

An Empathetic Approach To Counseling That Blends High-Level Training And Personal Experience In Recovery

As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, I specialize in treating clients struggling with sex addiction, porn addiction, and issues of betrayal. However, my personal and professional exposure to restrictive systems—including abusive religious environments and high control families—has greatly informed my understanding of trauma. Alongside my work with clients in sex addiction recovery, I treat individuals struggling with substance abuse, eating disorders, and residual trauma.

The Therapies I Use

When treating trauma, approaches like Brainspotting and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are particularly helpful. I am trained in both therapies, as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These evidence-based therapies allow my clients to improve coping and distress tolerance as they target their trauma at its core. And for couples experiencing challenges as a result of betrayal or setbacks in communication, I have Level-2 training as a Gottman Method therapist.

My work and training have shown me how trauma manifests as anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, and interpersonal issues. Aside from treating clients at Insights Counseling Center, I regularly work with local businesses to spread awareness about mental health issues and resources in the community.

How I Can Help You

As someone who’s experienced their fair share of pain and obstacles, I try to approach the therapeutic process with empathy. I work to be genuine in all of my interactions, challenging others in a direct yet gentle way.

I value learning, openness, and a sense of humor. In our sessions together, you’ll never be on the receiving end of judgment or shock. Rather, I will take a genuine curiosity in your experience so that you can feel meaningfully supported. Whereas other counselors may have been streamlined onto this path or approach their work from a place of academia, I maintain a diverse background of grounding professional and personal experiences that promote healing on a deep, authentic level. Recovery has shown me how to live life on my terms, and I want to help you do the same.

My Life Outside Of The Counseling Space

Of course, my recovery is just as important to my personal growth as it is to my professional perspective. Maintaining sobriety is a vital component of my everyday lifestyle, made possible by the supportive relationships I have in my family, at church, and among my friends. I am highly involved in my religious community and value spirituality as a meaningful aid on my personal journey of recovery.

I also enjoy spending quality time with my wife and son. Always interested in learning new skills and concepts, I have developed an array of hobbies that include designing and building objects for our home. Recently, I created a 3D model and printed a set of joints to attach to wooden dowels so that I could build a blanket fort for my son.

Positive Change Is Possible

Whether you’re struggling with issues of depression, anxiety, PTSD, or addiction-related concerns, our work together in counseling can help. I will treat you with compassion, care, and honesty.
